Construction

Built at Southern Cape Yachtbuilders and launched in September of 2010. Hulls, decks, pilot house and major bulkheads are constructed from epoxy resin and tri-axial glass laminate cored with Herex PVC marine grade foam. All exterior surfaces are spray painted with AwlGrip™ polyurethane coating. Some Alexseal polyurethane used post construction for its re-finish properties. Crossbeams are built of uni-directional carbon fiber/epoxy with foam cored epoxy/glass bulkheads.
  • Rudder Blades are fiberglass composite, high performance hydrofoil section with solid stainless steel rudder stocks
  • Twin Station all Mechanical (SS cable) Steering installed completely inside the structure and out of the weather.
  • Custom Cockpit Steering Pedestal with compass and engine controls, NKE Autopilot Control, USB-C power outlet and mounting bracket for iPad or tablet use
  • Daggerboards - 2 cored epoxy/glass daggerboards in epoxy/glass laminate trunks. Up and down haul controls lead to cockpit
  • Collision Bulkheads - Each hull has a collision bulkhead forward

Engines and Mechanical Systems

Engines were replaced May 2019 under Volvo recall due to EPA certification issues. Engine rooms are aft in each hull with a large hatch and ladder for easy entry and egress. Full stand up space with good lighting and easy access to systems. The port engine room contains the Diesel Furnace and water heater, which is plumbed to both engines to scavenge heat when underway. The starboard engine room contains 125-volt and 230-volt shore power breakers and isolators, cable winch for davit, autopilot, and AIS transceiver.

Electrical

Primary circuits for winches, autopilot, lighting, refrigeration, pumps, fans, etc. are 24-volt DC and controlled by the CZone Touch10 Display/Control Panel and Digital Switch NMEA 2000 Network (New 2021). This new system also offers onboard wireless monitor and control through your smart device and remote monitor and control of some circuits via Siren Marine Monitor via the internet. Additional 24-volt and 12-volt circuits are controlled at the Blue Seas Breaker Panels in the workshop Electrical Panel. The 24-volt system is charged by solar panels on the cabin top, high output alternators on both engines, and either 125-volt 60Hz, or 230-volt 50Hz shore power.

There are now two, separate, alternating current systems onboard: The original “Euro-style” 230-volt 50Hz system, with Mastervolt Inverter/Charger, shore power connections, isolator, inlet breaker, distribution panel with circuits and 230-volt outlets, remains. And a complete, new, 125-volt 60Hz system with Inverter/Charger shore power connections, isolator, inlet breaker with distribution panel, circuits and 125-volt outlets has been installed. Each system supplies its respective voltage to a network of outlets and circuits throughout the vessel. Power comes from shore connections or, from the 24-volt House battery bank, via either inverter. This gives the operator the option to plug into shore power around the globe (230 50Hz and 125 60Hz) and operate appliances on either voltage onboard via the inverters and network of outlets. The IsoTherm electric water heater is currently configured for 125-volt service; in the event the vessel travels to a 230-volt 50Hz geographic zone, it would require the heating element to be switched back to the 230-volt. 230-volt circuit and heating element are existing and aboard.

Electrical Equipment:

•    CZone Touch10 Display/Control Panel with NMEA 2000 Digital Switching Network
•    24-volt circuit breakers controlled from CZone Touch 10 Control Panel and/or wireless smart device
•    Mastervolt 230-volt 50Hz Inverter/Charger
•    Mastervolt 125-volt 60Hz Inverter/Charger
•    Batteries: Four 200 Amp-hour at 12-volts gel batteries, (NEW 2021).
•    Separate AGM engine start batteries for each engine
•    4 Solar Panels, 205 watt output each
•    Each engine has 2 alternators. 1 for the starter battery and 1 high output Mastervolt 24/95C (95Amp) Alpha alternator for the house batteries
•    Siren Marine Monitor, for remote monitoring of critical systems
•    LED lighting throughout
Full Disclosure:
- It is believed that the 230-volt 50Hz inverter has been damaged by attempts to power it with 240-volt 60Hz (US shore power). It is advised to inspect and likely repair or replace this 230-volt 50Hz inverter before traveling to a 230-volt 50Hz region and connecting to shore power.
- There is a wind generator installed but inoperable. It should be removed, repaired, or replaced.
